About Know Before You Dig Locates

Know Before You Dig Locates provides private utility locating and subsurface utility investigation services across Canada and the United States. We support excavation contractors, engineers, utility owners, and property managers by identifying buried utility infrastructure and documenting underground conditions before ground disturbance begins. Our work focuses on private property and complex environments where public 811 and One Call systems do not apply or provide incomplete information. We specialize in supplementing public locates with private utility locates, verification, and site-specific documentation needed to understand real-world underground risk. With more than 35 years of industry experience, our approach combines advanced locating technologies with practical field judgment informed by known locate limitations, access constraints, and site conditions. Know Before You Dig is a field-driven organization. Our role is to make underground risk visible, clarify what is known and unknown, and support informed decision making before ground is disturbed.
