About KuhiPaat NatureWorks
Kuhipaat NatureWorks (where "Kuhipaat" means budding leaves in Assamese) is a mission-driven, registered organization dedicated to restoring ecological balance and fostering sustainable livelihoods in the communities of Eastern Himalayan Region, starting from Keherukhanda, Sonitpur, Assam. Rooted in the philosophy of harmonious coexistence with nature, we strive to revive the Eastern Himalayan Region by empowering local communities, promoting agroforestry, and conserving biodiversity. Our flagship initiative, “One Lakh Trees by 2027” is rooted in the heart of Brahmaputra, Assam’s riverbank villages—Keherukhunda, Gabhoru Par, and Pachnoi Khuti. These villages, home to indigenous communities like the Adivasi, Koch, Bodo and Assamese, face environmental degradation, soil erosion, and the loss of biodiversity. Through this project, we aim to revive not just the land but also the spirit of these communities. What We Do: - Planting for the Future: With plans to grow 100,000 saplings across 110 hectares by 2027, we’re rebuilding habitats, combating soil erosion, and cooling the region naturally. - Empowering Communities: Women-led self-help groups and local youth are at the forefront of our efforts. Through capacity-building workshops, sustainable agriculture training, and hands-on restoration work, we’re creating green livelihoods in the region. - Reviving Lost Treasures: The Keheru fruit (Scirpus Grossus), once abundant in Keherukhunda, has reached its natural occupancy cycle. By restoring the soil, nearby wetlands and promoting organically driven agroforestry methods, we aim to bring back this medicinal tuber and other native species.
