We are on a mission to uplift 10,000 refugee women-led businesses & build 100 refugee SMEs in Uganda through mobilising & provision of affordable, accessible & sustainable business financing & funding. Because refugees can not legally own or even buy property and land which are primary requirements to access financial services in Uganda, they resort to informal financial markets that thrive in refugee settings in Uganda. Refugee-led businesses have to pay up to 120% interest per year to acquire loans from informal financial markets. Kuza Refugee Business Platform (REBU) is working to solve this challenge. Our model is rooted in lived experience of displacement and that is why we run an innovative business financing model that eliminates the need for security for refugees business owners to get financed. We leverage on mobile banking technology to remove the barrier of requiring refugee businesses to have bank accounts so as to get financing and funding for their businesses. We begin with sustainability and that is why our profits are re-invested in the social enterprise to impact more refugee businesses that require financing and funding. We are motivated by knowing that we are supporting real refugee self-reliance and building refugee local economies.
