About Lean Institute Africa

Lean Institute Africa is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing Lean thinking and practice across Sub-Saharan Africa. Based at the UCT Graduate School of Business in Cape Town, we work with organisations across industries to build capability in continuous improvement, operational excellence and leadership. Our purpose is the sustainable development of society. We aim to contribute to better organisational outcomes and improved quality of life by helping individuals and teams apply Lean principles in a practical, impactful way. Through training, coaching, action research and knowledge sharing, we support the development of a strong community of Lean practitioners across the region. Since 2008, we have hosted Lean Summit Africa, a leading conference bringing together global thought leaders including Jim Womack, Dan Jones, John Shook, Mike Rother and Michael Ballé. We have also led dedicated Healthcare Summits, expanding Lean thinking into critical sectors.
