LeMaanam was established in April 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Israel, when the challenges faced by Holocaust survivors intensified significantly. Loneliness, limited mobility, and difficult living conditions became even more severe during the crisis. Dr. Tamara Kolitz recognized the urgent need for a dedicated medical response and mobilized a group of fellow physicians to create a specialized, volunteer-based medical framework for Holocaust survivors. Within days, hundreds of physicians from across medical disciplines joined the initiative with a single goal: to provide Holocaust survivors in Israel with high-quality, accessible, and free medical care. In November 2020, LeMaanam launched its national call center, and since then has been serving Holocaust survivors across the country. Today, more than 1,600 volunteer physicians and medical professionals are part of LeMaanam’s network, working together to ensure that no Holocaust survivor is left without proper medical support. Our Activities LeMaanam operates a national medical call center staffed by clinical-year medical students and nursing teams are available Sunday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, in Hebrew and Russian. The organization provides a wide range of services, including telephone medical consultations, assistance in accessing medical services, referrals to specialist clinics, home visits for elderly survivors, and mobile medical clinics deployed across Israel. Our Mission LeMaanam’s mission is to provide high-quality, personal, accessible, and free medical care to every Holocaust survivor living in Israel. This is not only a moral and humanitarian obligation of the highest order, but also a national responsibility to care for Holocaust survivors in their later years and in times of illness.
