About Life After Release (LAR)
Life After Release (LAR) is a women-led, justice abolitionist organization founded by and for formerly incarcerated women. Based in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia), we build post-conviction power through participatory defense, advocacy, legal support, and community organizing. At LAR, we believe justice doesn’t come from punishment—it comes from empathy and people. Our work reimagines public safety by investing in community power and dismantling systems that criminalize race, gender, and poverty. Through our campaigns, bailouts, policy wins, and mutual aid, we are proving that freedom is a practice—and we practice it every day. 📌 What We Do: - Participatory Defense Training - Bailouts and Court Support - Reentry Navigation - Policy Advocacy - Leadership Development for System-Impacted Women 🧭 Our Vision: A world without cages, where all communities are safe, whole, and free. 📍 Based in: the Washington, D.C area 🌐 Website: www.lifeafterrelease.org 📬 Contact: info@lifeafterrelease.org
