About Life Matters International (LMI)
Our goal is to reduce the number of women and babies dying from preventable causes during pregnancy (reducing maternal mortality- UN sustainable development goal (SDG) target 3.1 & 3.2). We focus on midwives and mothers in remote areas of developing countries. We are headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our yearlong projects consist of weeklong “medical mission” type in-person visits alternating with month long remote web based supervision. We support midwives and nurses in optimizing prenatal care, expanding skills to include prenatal Point-of-Care-Ultrasound and address gaps in local prenatal care focusing on mother’s education. We connect volunteers among highly trained and active medical professionals in high income countries with the truly needy in developing countries. We favor outcomes over output. We “teach teachers” to build capacity locally and advance existing healthcare avoiding dependency. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life including - but not limited to - healthcare professionals, social media afficionados, dieticians, educators, web designers, IT specialists, Filipino interpreters and all people interested in making a difference for the lives of the less fortunate. We also welcome support from companies, corporations or philanthropic individuals. Charitable work can be beneficial for everyone involved - we could not do it without our volunteers, partners and donors. We are a “silver” certified nonprofit: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/87-3636025 Interested in our work? Volunteering? A partnership? Sponsoring? Email us at: Info@lifemattersinternational.org
