About Lisbon Project

The Lisbon Project is a non-profit organisation that exists to integrate and protect the lives of migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. At the Lisbon Project, we believe our wellbeing is interdependent, and so for Lisbon to thrive, we need to work together to ensure each individual thrives. Individuals thrive when integrated into the community. Due to barriers related to employment, housing, health care, language, unfamiliarity with local laws and values, and locally born residents’ unfamiliarity with the migrant and refugee experience, migrants and refugees can find it particularly challenging to integrate. We aim to support their integration and address these barriers by mobilizing individuals (both locally and internationally born) and organizations to provide empowering programs related to employment, education, legal aid, health care, housing, and culture. We believe if we work together, we can create a community where everyone is welcomed, respected, and included economically and socially. “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be... This is the inter-related structure of reality.” –Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from Birmingham Jail
