About Lithuanian Boxing Federation
Boxing has already celebrated a century in Lithuania since Steponas Darius introduced it there during the interwar years. Danas Pozniakas, who won the gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico, put on what was arguably the best performance by a Lithuanian in Olympic history. True, he did not add gold to the dowry of the Lithuanian national team, but of the Soviet Union. Jonas Čepulis won a silver medal in 1968 while Romualdas Murauskas and Ričardas Tamulis, who returned from the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956, both brought home bronze medals for the Soviet Union. Boxers have consistently been included on the lists of the Lithuanian delegation ever since the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where Lithuanians participated for the first time as representatives of the Independent Nation. Evaldas Petrauskas gave the best performance in Independent Lithuania's history so far during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. This time, the boxer took home a bronze medal in the 60 kg and under weight division. Eimantas Stanionis and Petrauskas were the last two Lithuanian athletes to represent their country at an Olympic Games, which took place in 2016. Petrauskas finished in ninth place despite losing the round of 16 match due to a contentious judge's decision, while Petrauskas finished his Olympic career in seventeenth place. Lithuanian boxers took home two world championship trophies in 2022 alone. In the women's competition, Gabrielė Stonkutė won the title, and Stanionis, who was already mentioned, won the title in the professional ring for men.
