About Loaves & Fishes Community Food Bank

Good food should never go to waste while people go without. Loaves & Fishes is a Vancouver Island-based food recovery and distribution organization working to ensure people have access to nutritious food while reducing unnecessary waste. We recover surplus food from grocery stores, wholesalers, and community partners, and redirect it to its highest and best use. Through a network of Free Food Markets, partnerships with more than 100 community organizations, and our role as a regional hub for Food Banks BC, we distribute food across Vancouver Island to reach individuals, families, and communities where it is needed most. Our work strengthens local food security, supports community partners, and contributes to a more sustainable and resilient food system.
