About London Literary Salon

Founded in 2004, we offer lively discussion-based studies (mostly virtual since Covid) of great literature – fiction, poetry, drama, ancient classics, philosophy – including works by ‘bucket list’ authors such as Proust and James Joyce, we’ve also recently launched our first creative writing courses. With us you can read drama and poetry – from T.S. Eliot to Shakespeare – with poets and actors. You can enjoy fiction by a diverse and ever-expanding array of authors including George Eliot, Henry James, Virginia Woolf, Ralph Ellison, William Faulkner, Angela Carter and Toni Morrison (in addition to Proust and Joyce). If you want to expand your knowledge of ancient literature, we offer opportunities to read classics from Vergil and Homer to the Norse myths, not to mention studies of ‘The Bible as literature’ which are open to readers of all faiths and none. We build community around the exploration of literature and ideas and advocate the pleasures of ‘slow’ reading. Reading as part of a group – joining an audience to share the same journey – enhances the experience. Our studies are led by committed and skilled guides. Readers and writers with curiosity and interest in the insights of others are warmly welcomed.
