About Makahakama Foundation

We are a Bay Area foundation with the goal of catalyzing positive change through restoring and protecting nature, supporting underserved entrepreneurs and strengthening the resiliency of our communities. Our focus centers around three pillars: COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AND EMPOWERMENT We support local organizations in Hawaiʻi, San Mateo County and Santa Clara County that build the cultural fabric and resiliency of our communities through the arts, safety net services, K-12 education programming, affordable housing and local climate solutions for frontline communities. ENVIRONMENT We fund, and make impact investments in, organizations and projects that restore and protect nature and help to build resilient and healthy ecosystems that benefit all life on earth, with a focus on approaches that can be catalytic if deployed at scale. ENTREPRENEURSHIP We have personally experienced and seen the power of entrepreneurship to uplift individuals, families and communities. We believe it is critical for our society to support individuals in underserved communities to become successful entrepreneurs. To this end, we foster efforts to increase access to capital, education, mentorship and robust professional networks. Our impact investing also supports venture funds with a focus on supporting equitable entrepreneurship.
