About Manassat Film Festival

Formerly known as the MasrdotBokra Film Festival, Manassat was conceptualized by a small yet determined team hoping to create an easily accessible platform that spotlighted the talented artists working in Egypt’s independent film scene. With a program focused exclusively on short films, Manassat premiered in 2015 as Egypt’s first online film festival. The two-week long program celebrated filmmakers - of all ages, experience levels, and backgrounds - by sharing their work with fellow artists and film enthusiasts, as well as a broader audience who may not have been familiar with the abundance of innovative short form films and their creators. In the ten years and eight festivals since its first edition, Manassat has continuously worked to provide opportunities for filmmakers to actualize their visions. From creating the annual production grant, to hosting script development workshops and craft specific panels, and expanding our programming to include craft awards recognizing the achievements of crew members working behind the camera, Manassat has aimed to sustain and help cultivate interest in arts and culture by amplifying the work of local filmmakers.
