Marine Botany Lab is a research group at Marche Polytechnic University interested in all the aspects of algal biology and ecology, from phytoplankton to macroalgae, combining fieldwork, lab experimentation, and advanced data analysis. Our expertise spans: 🧫 Isolation and culturing of micro- and macroalgal strains 🔍 Taxonomy and identification using light/electron microscopy and molecular techniques (DNA barcoding, metabarcoding) 🌱 Ecology of marine algae, including long-term trends, environmental interactions, and climate change impacts 🌊 Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) monitoring and analysis 🧬 Bioinformatics for species discovery and community profiling 🛰️ Remote sensing of oceanographic conditions through satellite data Our devices: growth chambers, DNA extraction and amplification tools, marine aquaria for mesocosm experiments, light and electron microscopes (SEM, TEM), and an Imaging FlowCytobot (IFCB) for high-throughput plankton imaging.
