About Maritime Empowerment Organization

Maritime Empowerment Organization is a nonprofit advancing inclusive, climate-resilient growth in the blue economy across maritime, fisheries, and inland water value chains. We work with seafarers, fishers, youth, women, industry, and public institutions to strengthen skills, improve access to services and finance, promote safe and environmentally responsible practices, and support sustainable livelihoods. Our programs combine community-based training, applied research, digital and data-driven tools, and multi-stakeholder partnerships to address gaps in safety, productivity, market access, and governance. To date, MEO has delivered capacity-building initiatives, youth and seafarer engagement programs, sector dialogues, and pilot projects that link communities with ports, training providers, and financial institutions. We also support evidence-based policy conversations that reflect the realities of both coastal and inland water communities. Through connecting people, knowledge, and opportunity, MEO contributes to stronger local economies, healthier aquatic ecosystems, and a just transition toward a sustainable blue economy in East Africa and the wider region.
