About Matthew Lock ADHD Charity
Charity and Advocacy Work: In memory of their son, Richard and Christine established the Matthew Lock ADHD Charity. The charity aims to raise awareness of the increased risks of addiction and suicide associated with undiagnosed and untreated ADHD. They are also campaigning for information about these risks to be included on the NHS website. Richard has been a vocal advocate for earlier diagnosis and better treatment, stating that the family "didn't know anything about the link between ADHD and suicide or addiction." He and his wife have appeared on This Morning to share their story and promote the charity's mission. Matthew Lock, a young man who died by suicide in September 2023 at the age of 19. Matthew was a contributor to the TV show This Morning and was diagnosed with ADHD at 18 and Asperger's (ASD) at 13. Richard and his wife, Christine, believe their son's death was a direct result of the lack of understanding and treatment of ADHD and its links to addiction and suicide. Key Beliefs: Richard believes that with early diagnosis, understanding, and effective treatment, people with ADHD can live full lives with positive outcomes. He has stated that ADHD can be an "absolute superpower" and that his son's impulsivity, which is a symptom of ADHD, "made Matthew who he was." The goal of his advocacy is to make a difference in Matthew's name and prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy.
