About Max Planck Schools

The Max Planck Schools are a joint graduate program of currently 27 universities and 35 institutes from non-university research organizations. Ambitious and promising PhD candidates engage in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in the fields of Cognition, Matter to Life, and Photonics, while studying in the context of a unique scientific network, closely supervised by outstanding scientists. Both Bachelor and Master graduates can enter the program and benefit from early access to first-class research infrastructures and innovative teaching formats in a fully-funded PhD program. In Germany, the best researchers in a specific field are often working at different universities and non-university research institutions spread throughout the country. The Max Planck Schools serve as hubs gathering this distributed knowledge. Here, the brightest minds in their fields - our Fellows - have come together from within the scientific community to interconnect in ‘faculties’ made up of leading scientists in these future-oriented fields.
