About Mechatronics and Robotics Society at UVA

The Mechatronics and Robotics Society (MARS) at UVA is a student-run engineering team focused on developing a lunar excavation and construction robot for NASA’s annual Lunabotics competition. Each year, MARS designs, builds, assembles, and programs a lunar robot that functions based on NASA requirements derived from current and future mission needs. Throughout the year, MARS facilitates and encourages members to get hands-on experience in STEM related topics of their choosing, including 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD), circuitry, machining, and coding; enhancing skills not typically taught in the classroom. MARS also engages K-12 students in STEM outreach within the Charlottesville community. Based out of Lacy Hall at UVA, MARS teaches its members vital engineering and interdisciplinary skills, creating future engineering leaders.
