About MetAGE - Cluster of Excellence

MetAGE is an interdisciplinary research cluster focused on understanding the metabolic regulation of ageing and age-related diseases. MetAGE bridges basic science and clinical application by uniting efforts of researchers from the University of Graz, the Medical Universities of Graz and Vienna, and the extended partner Joanneum Research. In close collaboration, basic researchers and clinicians investigate how disruptions in metabolic control contribute to the onset of age-related diseases. In parallel, we clinically test targeted nutritional interventions – with the goal of translating scientific insights directly into prevention strategies. What sets us apart is our commitment to integrating fundamental research with real-world application. Our shared vision: to shift the paradigm from a “medicine of illness” to a “medicine of health.” MetAGE is funded by the FWF Excellence Initiative excellent=austria. The cluster launched in October 2024 and is entering its first five-year funding phase.
