About Museum of Humanity
Museum of Humanity shows that every human being is a Masterpiece. With portraits, stories, exhibitions, training courses and happy activism, we bring people together to truly see each other. This is our answer to polarization, prejudice and exclusion. Museum of Humanity was founded in 2001 based on a dream photographer Ruben Timman had about a dilapidated museum – a metaphor for the state of the world. That dream was the starting point for a mission: to portray humanity with dignity. A growing team has now collected some nine thousand portraits and stories, always for a black screen, so that everyone is portrayed equally. Since the opening of the permanent museum in Zaandam in 2019, there has been a lot of activity. Museum of Humanity is growing with new pop-up exhibitions at home and abroad, workshops for young people (School of Humanity), training courses for companies (Humanity at Work) and an entrepreneurial network (Dreambuilders).
