About Nigat Global Initiative (NGI)

Nigat means light in Amharic which is the breaking of darkness and the beginning of new hope. We are a survivor-centered organization based in Ethiopia and connected globally, committed to ending human trafficking, unsafe migration, and slavery. Our work combines direct support for vulnerable migrants and trafficking survivors with bold advocacy, participatory research, and systemic change. At NGI, we empower individuals and communities to reclaim dignity and freedom by addressing exploitation at its roots. Our programs span migration governance, human rights, youth leadership, and economic independence, always rooted in the realities of the Global South. By bridging grassroots voices with global influence, and amplifying survivor-led initiatives, we are creating pathways to justice and sustainable change. Our vision is a world where freedom thrives and every life is protected with dignity.
