Founded in Jaipur in 2019 by Carole Bamford, Nila takes its name from the Sanskrit word for blue - a tribute to the timeless beauty of indigo and a symbol of the organisation's commitment to reviving this ancient natural dye. At its heart, Nila is a cultural and creative platform that honours the skills, stories, and sustainable practices of rural artisan communities.
