FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP MATTERS Financial decisions impact every aspect of a nonprofit’s operations and are key to achieving your mission. Effective nonprofit financial leadership is much more than simply tracking revenue and expenses. It requires a diverse set of skills, including budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and a thorough understanding of your organization’s finance model. Assessing your organization’s finance model is one area of focus for NFLA, a 7-week course designed by seasoned nonprofit professionals for new executive directors, executive directors needing to refresh their financial leadership toolkit, program and development directors, and emerging organizational leaders. She has worked with nonprofit start-ups, nonprofits with strong brand identities, and nonprofits in transition. As a leader and a collaborative partner, Deborah helps build organizational capacity, scale programs, assemble effective staff teams, secure public and private financing to support these efforts, and plan for sustainability. Anthony Petchel has 25 years of nonprofit and financial services leadership experience and is committed to centering equity in fundraising. Before becoming a consultant, Anthony led the fundraising and communications team at REACH Community Development and as Vice President of Development at OMSI. Before transitioning to fundraising, Anthony spent 16 years in commercial and consumer banking. Anthony also teaches fundraising at Portland State University and is an executive search consultant for Nonprofit Professionals Now.
