About Northern Heartlands

Northern Heartlands is an arts charity and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation based in County Durham bringing the creativity of artists together with individuals, communities and partner organisations. Together, we deliver projects, activities and events that can change how people feel about themselves, the places where they live, and what happens there. We work primarily in south west Durham, with people living in the deeply rural areas of Teesdale and Weardale, and some of the post-industrial towns and villages of the former Durham coalfield. We aim to achieve this mission by: * Recognising that each place we work in, and each community we work with, is unique  * Working with creative practitioners in everything we do  * Ensuring we always work collaboratively with communities  * Always reviewing, learning from, and adapting our approach and sharing our learning with others  * Supporting artists and creative practitioners to reach their full potential  * Working in partnership We work with people to celebrate the unique identity of a place, valuing its heritage and culture, and fostering creativity. By amplifying local voices, we help empower communities to overcome challenges and imagine new possibilities so meaningful change can happen
