About NZ Association of Metal Recyclers
The NZ Association of Metal Recyclers (prior to 2019, the Scrap Metal Recycling Association of NZ) represents the New Zealand metals recycling industry. Founded in 1968, there are members of the Association throughout the country. In calendar year 2024, AMR members processed over 874,000 tonnes of metal, undertaking over 725,000 individual transactions, to serve their communities across NZ. 670,000 tonnes were exported from New Zealand. (Processing is part of the value chain with some processing occurring before materials are on-sold to the final exporter.) Many policy makers and members of the general public are unaware that most metals can be recycled. We champion our industry through advocacy for smart regulation, education, collaboration and innovation. To serve our national membership and reduce our carbon footprint, we operate from a fully remote/virtual office.
