About O'KANATA
O’KANATA is a federally incorporated, youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Indigenous youth across Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Turtle Island. Founded in 2019 and incorporated in 2023, O’KANATA has gained international recognition from the United Nations and the World Trade Organization for its innovative approach to advancing youth leadership, cultural preservation, and sustainable development. Our mission is to empower Indigenous youth by providing comprehensive support through post-secondary education, scholarships, cultural assistance, and employment networking. We envision a future where Indigenous youth can bridge systemic gaps, access opportunities, and lead their communities toward sustainable and inclusive development. We deliver programs that blend traditional knowledge systems with modern tools to address today’s social, economic, and environmental challenges. Our work includes: Eco-Literacy Initiatives – teaching sustainability through land-based learning, green energy, and environmental stewardship. Youth Employment & Entrepreneurship Hubs – equipping youth with training, mentorship, and networks to succeed in diverse career pathways. Cultural & Digital Storytelling – amplifying Indigenous voices, languages, and art while strengthening cultural pride and intergenerational connections. Digital Inclusion & Media Literacy – preparing youth to navigate and shape digital spaces safely and effectively. O’KANATA’s work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotes reconciliation by ensuring Indigenous youth are recognized as leaders in reshaping Canada’s social, cultural, and economic future. Through collaboration with elders, educators, communities, and global partners, O’KANATA builds lasting pathways for Indigenous youth to thrive locally and globally. When Indigenous youth lead, the world thrives.
