About OCEAN – the European Ship Suppliers Organization

The European Ship Suppliers Organization (OCEAN) is the voice of the European ship supply industry. OCEAN, founded in 1976 under the French name "Organisation de la Communauté Européenne des Avitailleurs de Navires," focuses its efforts on developing an optimal business climate for European ship providers and enhancing the industry's overall competitiveness. Our organisation plays a significant role in fostering a better understanding of the European ship supply business. Our organisation is dedicated to open and transparent communication and an inclusive conversation between our members and European policymakers. Today, we represent over 750 ship chandlers (more than 250,000 employment) that sell a vast array of items to several hundred thousand ships annually in the majority of the 1,200 merchant ports along Europe's 70,000 km of coastline. Ship suppliers offer a 24-hour service 365 days a year and are a vital component of modern marine commerce and a thriving shipping sector. OCEAN discusses European policy issues that impact our daily company operations, including customs (import, export, and transit), taxation (Excise & VAT), commerce, veterinary, transportation, and maritime affairs. The organisation has two secretariats: one in the Netherlands for administration and operation, and another in Brussels for European affairs and advocacy. OCEAN is a member of the Trade Contact Group of the European Commission.
