About ODU Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity

The Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity (CEIO) at Old Dominion University is transforming education at the speed of innovation. As the strategic hub for ODU’s statewide lab school network, CEIO leads the development of a regionally aligned system of STEM-focused public lab schools in partnership with Chesapeake, Newport News, Suffolk, Accomack, and Northampton County Public Schools, as well as partners with 5 additional lab schools across the commonwealth. Together, these schools create a seamless K–12 pipeline designed to fuel Hampton Roads’ most critical industries—maritime engineering, aerospace technology, computer science, and environmental innovation. From hands-on STEM exploration in elementary grades to advanced workforce preparation in high school, students engage in real-world, career-connected learning experiences that prepare them for the demands of the 21st-century economy. CEIO provides strategic leadership, research coordination, and subject matter expertise to lab schools across Virginia. By connecting K–12 innovation with university resources and regional industry, we are reimagining public education as a direct investment in community and economic growth.
