About Palomar Amateur Radio Club

Founded in 1936, the Palomar Amateur Radio Club (PARC) is a premier telecommunications and technical experimentation organization in San Diego County. With a community of around 150 dedicated operators and engineers, we manage a specialized RF infrastructure, anchored by our privately owned repeater site on Palomar Mountain. As site owners, we not only maintain our own critical systems but also support the broader regional network by leasing space to other radio organizations. Our mission is centered on operational readiness and public service. PARC serves as a vital technical partner within San Diego’s emergency management landscape, providing communications support to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Mercury Amateur Radio Association (MARA), and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES). We ensure that when primary networks are challenged, our resilient, self-powered systems are ready to facilitate essential coordination for local public safety and disaster response agencies. Beyond emergency services, PARC serves as a hub for technical mentorship and hands-on learning. Our STEM Experimentation Lab on the mountain features a variety of micro-computing and controller technologies (including Arduino and Raspberry Pi), along with remote-access Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms. We are committed to fostering technical excellence, ensuring our members are equipped to support and innovate within the evolving telecommunications landscape.
