About Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI)

The Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI) is a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to advancing perinatal and infant mental health. For more than 24 years, PIRI has led nationally and internationally recognised research examining antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety, paternal wellbeing, prematurity, early brain development, and the parent–infant relationship. Our work spans basic science, clinical trials, health services research and large-scale implementation. PIRI is distinguished by its strong focus on translation. We design, evaluate and implement evidence-based interventions that move from research into real-world clinical and community settings. Our programs include nationally accredited digital treatments such as MumMoodBooster, Mum2BMoodBooster and DadBooster, alongside group-based, relationship-focused and early intervention programs that support families during pregnancy and the first years of life. Our research has contributed to national screening policy, workforce training initiatives and the development of universal perinatal psychosocial assessment frameworks across Australia. We continue to work closely with health professionals, health services and government partners to strengthen stepped-care pathways and improve access to safe, effective perinatal mental health support. At PIRI, we are committed to improving early environments, strengthening parent–infant relationships and investing in the earliest years to achieve lasting benefits for children, families and communities.
