About Partnership for a Better San Diego

The Partnership for a Better San Diego is the 501(c)3 arm of the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council – a labor organization representing over 130 unions and 200,000 working families across the region. Since 2020, PABSD pivoted to providing relief to working families that were impacted by the pandemic. PBSD serves over 10,000 families annually. The High Road Hiring Hall Program (HRHHP) is a grassroots effort to improve the conditions of on-demand work. HRHHP is a nascent program of the CLC whose primary focus is to match workers to on demand shifts requested by union employers. Currently the program is recruiting, training and matching for jobs within the hospitality industry with the plan to expand to other industries and sectors. PABSD’s mission is two-fold: 1) Combat food insecurity in San Diego & Imperial Counties. 2) Help foster economic stability for individuals, the community and the local hospitality sector and build the labor movement in San Diego County. We will do this by providing training and development opportunities for underserved populations, which will improve access to good union jobs within the hospitality industry.
