About PLEO (Pacific Legal Education and Outreach Society)

PLEO seeks to ensure that arts, culture, and social service non-profits and low-income artists are informed about and empowered to exercise their legal rights and responsibilities under the provincial and federal acts and regulations which govern their activities. Vital to the healthy functioning of our social, economic, cultural, and environmental systems, non-profits are collectively larger than forestry in their contribution to British Columbia’s GDP. Yet most non-profits are relatively small and do not have a pro-active relationship with the laws that govern them, or the resources to access legal services. PLEO seeks to address this shortfall in knowledge and access through a number of programs. Through its Law For Non Profits (LFNP) initiative, PLEO offers an Ask A Law Student service and conducts workshops and webinars on legal issues for non-profit organizations in British Columbia. Learn more about LFNP at lawfornonprofits.ca. PLEO is a non-profit society registered under the B.C. Societies Act.
