About Poetic Justice Inc.

Poetic Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing restorative writing and creative arts programming to individuals who are or have been incarcerated in women’s carceral facilities. Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, PJ has grown into a multi-state organization with a chapter-based model and a national office. The organization is rooted in the belief of a shared humanity and the power of trauma-informed creative expression. Since 2014, Poetic Justice has worked to build community within and beyond prisons, jails, and youth facilities. Our programs create structured opportunities for participants to explore their voice, reflect on their experiences, and engage in meaningful creative work. Our work has expanded to include in-facility classes, distance learning programs, art and storytelling initiatives, public exhibitions, published anthologies, and special projects such as prison journalism and children’s literature. Poetic Justice operates in partnership with correctional facilities, volunteers, and community organizations to expand access to programming that is often unavailable. Volunteers play a critical role in facilitation, mentorship, and program support, helping sustain consistent and meaningful engagement across all programs. At its core, Poetic Justice is about creating space for voice, reflection, and growth. We believe that when individuals are given the opportunity to be heard, it can transform how they see themselves, how they connect with others, and what they believe is possible for themselves and the communities they will reside in. Voice. Hope. Power to Change.
