About Preserve Rural Maine

Preserve Rural Maine is a grassroots 501(c)(3) dedicated to protecting the communities, cultures, and environmental integrity of rural Maine. Our story began in summer 2023, when thousands of residents across 40+ towns discovered their land had been quietly targeted for a proposed 150-mile transmission line with 150-foot towers cutting through the heart of central Maine. What started as neighbors with a shared mission has grown into a statewide movement. We fight to ensure that rural communities, which too often bear the brunt of large-scale development, have a real seat at the table. That means protecting habitats, farms, forests, small businesses, and the irreplaceable culture of rural Maine. We're entirely volunteer-run, and every dollar you give goes directly toward advocacy, legislative engagement, and making sure rural Mainers are never left out of the conversation.
