About PROMYS: Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists

The Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists (PROMYS) is an intensive and challenging six-week summer program in mathematics for exceptionally talented high schoolers from across the US and around the world. What sets PROMYS apart is the depth of its mathematics. Students work on carefully crafted problem sets, proving fundamental mathematical ideas for themselves. They develop the habits of mind, independence of thought, and creativity to become leaders and innovators in and far beyond mathematics. The PROMYS flagship program has run in partnership with Boston University since 1989. PROMYS for Teachers, a summer institute for educators, has engaged secondary school teachers in mathematical problem solving since 1990. PROMYS Pathways, a free outreach program, is designed to support Massachusetts students who might not otherwise have access to deep mathematical enrichment opportunities. PROMYS programs either offer generous need-based financial aid or are free for all participants. Over the past decade, PROMYS's success in the US has inspired the launch of new programs to reach additional students in Europe and Asia: PROMYS Europe in partnership with the University of Oxford and Clay Mathematics Institute, PROMYS India in partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and PROMYS Italia in partnership with the University of Padova.
