About Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion

At Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion (QAI), we are an independent, non-profit organisation advocating for the needs, rights and lives of people with disability in Queensland. Established in 1987, QAI is a Disabled People’s Organisation, a registered charity, and an accredited Community Legal Centre, with a long-standing reputation for principled, evidence-based advocacy. What we do We deliver individual advocacy services to support people with disability when their rights are at risk or systems are difficult to navigate. Our work includes advocacy in relation to: - Human rights - Guardianship and administration - Disability discrimination - Involuntary mental health treatment - Criminal justice involvement - NDIS appeals - Advocacy for children and young people - Statewide information and referrals through our Pathways helpline, helping people avoid the “referral roundabout” How we advocate QAI also has a strong history of systems advocacy and law and policy reform, including work to end the institutionalisation of people with disability. The lived experiences of the people we support through individual advocacy directly inform our broader reform work. Our vision Our vision is for inclusive communities where all people are equally valued and enjoy their human rights. We are strong allies of First Nations peoples and the LGBTIQA+SB community.
