READIO Remote Care Empowerment and Development Initiative Organization Bridging the Gap. Saving Lives. Empowering Communities. Founded in 2020 by Dr. Lisanwork Honsebo, READIO Ethiopia is a community-based, volunteer-driven civil society organization building sustainable, integrated systems in underserved and disaster-affected communities across Ethiopia. READIO is not mission-based alone. We design and strengthen long-term systems that integrate emergency response, primary healthcare, prevention, capacity building, and community empowerment. Our model is grounded in shared responsibility—communities are partners, not passive beneficiaries. Since its founding, READIO has reached over 63,000 individuals through 15+ volunteer-led projects across Gofa, Dasenech, Abela Abaya, Wolaita, Sidama, South Omo, and other hard-to-reach regions. Our integrated areas of work include: • Emergency response to floods, landslides, fires, and displacement crises • Mobile primary healthcare and outreach services • Maternal, newborn, and child health programs • Ultrasound and cervical cancer screening • Nutrition screening and CMAM linkage • Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) • WASH and disease prevention initiatives • Malaria, TB, and communicable disease screening • Community health education and behavior change • Blood donation mobilization • On-site training and mentorship for local health workers • Health system strengthening and emerging digital health • Community resilience and leadership engagement READIO operates through a multidisciplinary volunteer network of medical doctors, nurses, midwives, public health professionals, nutritionists, laboratory experts, environmental health officers, and community leaders.
