About Regional Health Governance Study Research Program

The Regional Health Governance Study (RHGS) is a research program headquartered at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). RHGS examines how regional and sub-regional governance systems shape equitable health outcomes—particularly in the context of pandemic preparedness, emergency response, and health system resilience. RHGS brings together collaborators and partners across the world, bridging research and practice to advance governance approaches that strengthen coordination, accountability, and equity in regional health systems. Our work explores how governance frameworks influence access to vaccines, medicines, and essential health products, while also addressing emerging priorities such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), digital health governance, and rights-based approaches to public health decision-making across regions. Through interdisciplinary research, policy-relevant synthesis, and knowledge mobilization initiatives—including annual research symposia, publications, partner engagement, and global dialogue—RHGS supports evidence-informed strategies to strengthen regional collaboration and advance more equitable health governance systems.
