About Roy Howard Community Journalism Center

Funded by a $3 million grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation, the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center aims to enhance journalism and empower journalists across southeast Mississippi. It focuses on impactful, issue-oriented, people-centered reporting and covers 10 counties, including Lamar, Forrest, Perry, Greene, Pearl River, Stone, George, Hancock, Harrison and Jackson. Its “What Is True?” media literacy initiative offers free public trainings and a service where the public can submit questions about misinformation and disinformation for investigation. With bureaus located on the Hattiesburg campus, the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach and at Mississippi Public Broadcasting in Jackson, the center provides learning opportunities for students while supporting newsrooms in the region.
