About Rule of Law Empowerment

The mission of Rule of Law Empowerment (ROLE) is to champion and uphold the principles of the rule of law as defined by the UN: ensuring that all individuals, institutions, and states are accountable to publicly promulgated, equally enforced, and independently adjudicated laws consistent with international human rights standards. Founded by former judges of the European Court of Human Rights, distinguished legal experts, and experienced practitioners from Europe, USA and Central Asia, ROLE leverages its unparalleled expertise and networks to strengthen legal institutions, train legal professionals, and promote transparent judicial processes. With a particular focus on developing countries from Europe and Central Asia, ROLE adopts a comprehensive, cross-regional approach to addressing shared challenges, fostering collaboration, and empowering societies to build robust, independent legal systems that guarantee justice for all. ROLE fulfills this mission through a multifaceted approach that includes watchdogging, research and reporting, advising on legal reforms, supporting and empowering civil society organizations, human rights lawyers, and defenders; legal advice and strategic litigation, as well as continuing professional education for legal practitioners.
