SAL operates Skip-a-Long Childhood Centers - early care and education centers in Iowa and Illinois, The Home Child Care Network - a network of licensed and license-exempt home child care providers in both the Quad Cities and Peoria areas, Early Head Start Child Care Partnership - providing comprehensive, individualized services to low-income infants and toddlers up to age 4, as well as pregnant mothers and their families living in Henry, Mercer, and Rock Island Counties (IL), Open Door Crisis Assistance - a program to help Scott County residents - individuals and families - in crisis navigate local social services, the Welcoming Center - a program to help immigrant, refugee, and limited English proficient individuals and families from Rock Island, Henry, and Mercer (IL) Counties, Child Care Connection - the child care resource and referral program in Peoria, IL, and the Child Care Resource and Referral of Midwestern Illinois that serves the Illinois Quad Cities and surrounding counties. Founded in 1970 as Skip-a-Long Daycare, SAL has grown from a single child care facility that serviced a few children to a large, complex agency serving 17 counties in two states. SAL is at the forefront of public policy and issues regarding early care and education and individual and family social services and is dedicated to making sure all families have what they need to be successful, regardless of financial means.
