About Samawada: A Community Bridge-Building Organization

Samawada is a Canadian registered charitable organization dedicated to providing access to clean water for underserved communities in East Africa, with particular focus in Somalia. We work to address global water crises by implementing innovative and sustainable solutions, engaging with local communities, and collaborating with local and international partners. Unsafe water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene are significant contributors to the spread of infectious diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever. Half of Somalia's population lacks access to sustainable clean water and sanitation facilities, and this scarcity has severe health, social, and economic impacts. Founded in 2018, Samawada has already taken significant action to address water scarcity in Somalia, through workshops for local communities, conducting hydrological surveys to develop sustainable boreholes, collaborating with local partners, and developing a reforestation strategy. Committed to a community-driven approach, Samawada is dedicated to promoting gender equality and holistic community resilience.
