About Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections

The office of the Honorable Ron Turner administers elections in Sarasota County, including the cities of Sarasota, Venice and North Port and the Town of Longboat Key. One of five elected offices established in the Florida Constitution for every county, the Supervisor of Elections administers federal, state, county, municipal and special district elections in accordance with the Florida Election Code, the federal Help America Vote Act, the National Voting Rights Act, the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and federal voting rights laws. The services offered by the office include: Receiving and processing voter registration applications from qualified Florida residents; Performing list maintenance to ensure accurate and current voter registration records; Filing and qualifying candidates for election to county, district and special district offices; Processing requests for and mailing vote-by-mail (absentee) ballots to absentee voters, including military and overseas voters; Recruiting and training poll workers in election law and procedures prior to each election; Conducting election day and early voting at designated sites; Conducting supervised vote-by-mail voting for assisted living facilities or nursing homes upon request; Counting, canvassing and certifying election returns; and Conducting nonpartisan education programs to ensure voters have knowledge of voting equipment and election procedures. Mr. Turner was elected Supervisor of Elections of Sarasota County in 2016 and re-elected in 2020 and 2024. In 2023-24 he served as president of the Florida Supervisors of Elections association. Previously, Mr. Turner served as chief of staff for the Sarasota County elections office from 2011 until his election. He began his public service career at the age of 23 as a city council member and deputy mayor for the City of Arcadia and later served as Supervisor of Elections of DeSoto County.
