About Save Beisa Oryx Community-SBOC

Save Beisa Oryx Community Trust (SBOC) is an Indigenous pastoralist-led conservation network focused on preserving the critically endangered Beisa Oryx, other threatened antelope species, and the dryland acacia forest catchments in Northern Kenya. Founded by Paul Edonga in 2021, SBOC is committed to protecting biodiversity while promoting social development, climate justice, and poverty eradication among pastoralist communities. SBOC is the only African Indigenous Pastoralist-led Conservation Network, driven by a unique grassroots alliance of pastoralist youth, women, ambassadors, and volunteers. Our network operates on the principles of community engagement and collective action to achieve lasting environmental and social impact. Our Vision To lead a global movement where Indigenous communities are at the forefront of conservation efforts, balancing biodiversity preservation with human rights and social development. Our Mission To empower Indigenous pastoralist communities in conserving biodiversity and safeguarding natural ecosystems while advancing climate justice, social equity, and sustainable livelihoods through inclusive, participatory, and gender-responsive approaches. This is achieved through innovative community-based conservation programs, citizen science, ecosystem restoration, and fostering partnerships that ensure equitable benefit-sharing and resilience for both people and nature.
