About Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association

This is the official page for the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association (SSBA). For over 125 years, the SSBA has been the dedicated lifeline for Scotland's shore-side maritime workforce and their families facing financial hardship. While the maritime sector offers various avenues of support for seafarers, the SSBA stands uniquely as the only charity specifically focused on providing vital financial assistance to those in shore-based roles within Scotland's maritime community. From illness and mental health challenges to significant life transitions and redundancy, our bursaries offer crucial support, helping individuals tackle debt and access essential services for themselves and their families. Membership to our association, a one-time contribution, not only provides potential future support but also serves as a direct charitable donation to empower our community. Join the SSBA and become a vital part of ensuring no shore-side maritime worker in Scotland is left to face hardship alone.
