About Siena Art Institute

The Siena Art Institute (SART) is a non-profit arts & sustainability organization based in the heart of Siena, Italy. Since 2010 we lead a unique study abroad experience for Undergraduate or Post-Baccalaureate art, writing, sustainability, museum studies, political sciences and art history students. We also host artist residencies, Project Fellowships, sustainability experts residencies and a visiting artist program. For the local community, we offer art & sustainability courses, training and volunteering opportunities, talks and events. We manage a space for horticultural, beekeeping and permacultural experimentation, "Ortoaperto". Classes and artist studios are hosted in our headquarters, a building part of the former psychiatric hospital architectural complex called Il Punto|The Point. In 2022 the Siena Art Institute helped creating Art Cloud Greece, its sister organisation based in Athens (Greece). The organisation involves SART alumni and former resident artists and promotes workshops, training opportunities, art projects and exhibitions. In 2024 we inaugurated our "Hidden Garden", a small grove in the shadow of Siena's medieval walls. The space, open to all - students, artists and visitors - is sustainably managed and accessible to blind, deaf and deaf-blind people. Since 2025 the Siena Art Institute manages The Peace Room project, developed thanks to a grant from the Region of Tuscany and Giovanisì for Toscanaincontemporanea2025.
