About Slocan Valley Co-op
Located in the West Kootenays of British Columbia, the Slocan Valley Co-op has grown to serve the communities throughout the Slocan Valley, Nelson, and Castlegar region. Seven members of the Doukhobor community founded the Co-op in 1957 to supply fuel, farm and grocery items to the Slocan Valley family and farming community. Throughout the years, with numerous changes and amendments, the original concept of the Slocan Valley Co-op has evolved into a local cornerstone with annual sales nearing $40 million dollars. The Co-op operates four gas bar locations in Slocan Park, Castlegar, Nelson, and a Tempo in Glenmerry; a Bulk Petroleum Department and Cardlock that provides fuel services to commercial businesses, farms, and 6 independent and Tempo branded fuel resellers; and The Dam Restaurant and Bar in South Slocan. Our investments since 2012 have propelled our Co-op to successfully realize our goal of expanding our presence in the region to provide our members an exceptional customer experience, and further develop our resources to drive our ambition in being a positive contributor to the community. Our membership with Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), and partnership with the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) has helped create a vast network of Co-operatives in Western Canada, employing over 25,000 people in over 600 communities, sharing our profits with the member-owners we serve.
