About Social Community Theatre Centre | SCT Centre

Social Community Theatre Centre (SCT Centre) is a Turin-based cultural centre at the forefront of developing performing arts projects with transformative impact on people and the places they inhabit. We work across cultural and civic participation, urban regeneration, social inclusion, education and health promotion, with a core commitment to creating innovative approaches that amplify theatre’s social and health impact and foster individual and community empowerment. Founded in 2003 as a working group and formalised in 2013, SCT Centre was established through a partnership between the University of Turin (Department of Humanities), COREP – Consortium for Research and Lifelong Learning, and TPE – Teatro Popolare Europeo as artistic partner. At the heart of our work is the Social and Community Theatre (SCT) methodology, founded in the early 2000s at the University of Turin by Alessandro Pontremoli and Alessandra Rossi Ghiglione. Through this participatory, transformative approach—grounded in artistic quality and dramaturgy—we design and manage multi-professional, cross-sector projects that combine artistic creativity, scientific research and social commitment. Our activities span: project design and innovation; research, monitoring and evaluation; scientific consultancy and project supervision for public bodies, foundations, companies and non-profits; and training and capacity building through permanent courses, masters, a national SCT school and international summer schools. We collaborate with an extensive national and international network of partners, and between 2003 and 2023 we worked with 177 third-sector organisations, 79 public institutions, 73 cultural organisations, 24 healthcare institutions, 37 educational institutions and 40 universities.
