About Spa Holistique Ayurveda | Ayurveda Holistic Spa

Pronounced as ‘aye-your-vay-duh,’ it is the world’s oldest health discipline system first described in ancient India around 5,000 years ago. It is the “sister science” of Yoga and they go hand-in-hand. The fact that this ancient medicine is still in use today is a testament to the wisdom it holds when it comes to understanding the human potential to achieve a happy and healthy life – something that our fast, stressful, and depleted society alarmingly lacks nowadays. People are turning and re-turning to Ayurveda because of its tried-and-trued wisdom. We crave for a more holistic approach to our physical and mental well-beings as Western medicine becomes less personal and leaves us like guinea pigs with trial-and-error prognoses and medications. Ayurvedic medicine is not meant to replace Western medicine but rather to complement it. Its focus is more preventative, whereas conventional medicine’s concentration is more symptomatic. According to Health Canada, natural health medicine is a (several) billion-dollar industry (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2008). More than 70% of Canadians use complementary and alternative health care therapies to stay healthy and improve their quality of life. If you look around, you would notice that everywhere you go chances are you would bump into a yoga/meditation studio within a 3 to 5-kilometer radius. Or an organic health store. Or people leaning more onto sustainably-raised, seasonal, natural produce. The world is now primed for this paradigm shift. We are gradually waking up from all the stressors in our environment and realizing that diseases and illnesses of the body and the mind are not the way to live. This is all part of the Ayurveda movement – and it is happening!
