Stater Bros traces its beginnings back to a small grocery store on West Yucaipa Boulevard in Yucaipa, California. Twin brothers Cleo and Leo Stater started the original Stater Bros Market with a $600 down payment and opened for business in August 1936. The company now owns and operates a chain of 167 supermarkets in Southern California. Corporate headquarters are in San Bernardino, California.
